Frequently Asked Questions
Question - Number of Lessons. What is your recommendation regarding the number of lessons I should schedule?
Answer - For beginners, I look to achieve pool/water safety first. I recommend a minimum of 2 weeks of lessons (back-2-back). I suggest scheduling at least one additional week. If your goal is for your child to become a technically proficient swimmer, some clients book up to six weeks and they are happy with the results!
Question - FriscoSwim School. What is the difference between FriscoSwim School and lessons elsewhere?
Answer - My school keeps the instructor-to-student ratio at the highest level to achieve personal attention for your swimmer. Maximum class size is 3 and I often use assistant instructors.
Question - Fear of the Water. My child is afraid of the water - what can I do to help?
Answer - Children are usually able to work past their initial fears with support, encouragement and persistence. In my experience, the fear is over in 3 days or less. Have patience through this natural process and you will see the outcome is amazing! Your child will be so happy and proud of their accomplishment!
Question - Wait List. I wanted some additional lessons or I was not able to get on your calendar. Is the wait list worth trying?
Answer - Oh yes! I do get cancellations that I fill from the wait list. I work through my waiting list every year.
Question - Siblings. I have one swimmer that is a beginner (L1) and the other is more advanced (L3). One is age 3, one is age 8. Can you teach them together during the same lesson?
Answer - I have done this in the past and have determined that grouping similar ages and levels together provides the best learning experience. When we schedule your siblings we will work out the best schedule possible but I would not recommend putting these siblings in the same lesson.
Question - Siblings. Would you consider putting my three children of different ages and levels in the same class?
Answer - Since you have 3 children that fill a class, please call me to discuss this situation and I will work with you to attempt to accommodate your needs.
Question - Special Needs. How do you handle lessons for my Special Needs swim student?
Answer - I have found that many of my special needs students have siblings that can be taught together in the same class. If that is not the case, then I will pair them up and include them with one other student and have an assistant with me in the pool so there is a one-on-one ratio.
Question - Diving. Can you teach my child to dive? Our community pool is too shallow to dive.
Answer - Yes, my pool has a diving board and is 9+ feet deep. Our pool builder (Riverbend-Sandler) adheres to the strict design and depth standards developed by the American Red Cross for diving pools.
